Authorities on Monday accused a Downers Grove woman of sexually assaulting a high-school boy while working as a tutor and soccer coach at Downers Grove South High School, according to a DuPage County news release.

Christina Formella, 30, faces two felony counts of aggravated sexual abuse and one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault, according to the news release from DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Downers Grove Police Chief Michael DeVries.

The boy was 15 at the time of the alleged assault and the defendant was 28, according to court documents. Formella was working as a tutor and soccer coach when the alleged assault took place during a morning tutoring session in December 2023, authorities said. Authorities began investigating the allegations after the boy’s mother purchased him a new phone and found text messages between him and the defendant, according to court records.

Judge Joshua Dieden ordered Formella released pending trial on the condition that she not return to Downers Grove South High School, have any contact with the alleged victim or any person under the age of 15. She is next set to appear in court April 14.
