Syria to Resume International Flights to and from Damascus on Tuesday

Damascus: So, guess what? Syria just announced that international flights are making a comeback at Damascus International Airport starting Tuesday. This is a big deal since flights were on hold after the political shake-up last month when they ousted President Bashar al-Assad.

The state news agency SANA shared the news, quoting Ashhad al-Salibi, who’s in charge of civil aviation. He reassured everyone that they’re ready to welcome back international flights. They’re even working on upgrading both the Aleppo and Damascus airports to make sure they can handle all the incoming traffic.

Interestingly, international aid planes and some foreign diplomats have already been landing in Syria. Plus, domestic flights are back in action too. Just the other day, Qatar Airways announced it would resume flights to Damascus after a long break of nearly 13 years, starting with three flights a week from Tuesday.

A Qatari official mentioned that they’re ready to help the new Syrian authorities get things rolling at the airport. And just to give you a sense of how things are changing, the first flight since the political upheaval took off from Damascus to Aleppo on December 18. It’s definitely a new chapter for Syria!
